NG Healthcare Staff Handbook

Your safety – staying safe

DRINKING & DRUGS

Any member of staff arriving at work who appears to be under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs will be required to take an alcohol and drug test and if failed will be suspended immediately pending a disciplinary investigation.

DISABLED PEOPLE

Health and Safety regulations should be used to facilitate the full inclusion of disabled people for their maximum participation.

The regulations should not be used for the purpose of exclusion, they are a tool for ensuring the safe working practice of everybody.

In order to maximise participation forward planning is essential between the disabled person and the Unit Manager.

All disabled people have individual needs, especially where Health and Safety is concerned.

If a disabled person requires supported egress out of a building in the event of an emergency, an evacuation plan should be agreed by all those involved and reviewed on a regular basis. This is called PEEPS – Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan Specific First Aid training might also be necessary, for example, where a condition such as epilepsy is disclosed, or a special risk assessment should be undertaken to ensure that the appropriate adjustments have been made.
