Your safety – staying safe

RISK ASSESSMENT

Everything we do in life carries an element of risk. The likelihood of this risk being realised is the underlying principal of risk assessment.

Think

What could go wrong? Where is there likely to be a problem?

Who might get hurt? Why might it happen? When could it happen? How could this be avoided.

WORKSHOP SAFETY

Workshops are hazardous. Only use machinery, equipment or apparatus which you are trained for.

Report machinery, equipment or apparatus which fails or appears faulty to a supervisor.

Keep floors clear and clean, particularly gangways areas around machinery.

If using machinery you must not wear scarves, ties, loose cuffs, rings or bracelets. Hand injuries can easily occur through misuse of hand tools. Operating instructions and procedures, information notices, and warning notices must be followed at all times. Switch off and unplug before making an adjustment to a piece of machinery, equipment or apparatus and make sure guards are in position before switching machinery on.
