WASTE MEDICINES.
From April 2005 a new NHS contract for community pharmacists was introduced. This highlighted that community pharmacists cannot accept medication waste from care homes unless their hold a Waste Management License. National Minimum Standards require registered providers to have a suitable and safe system to dispose of unwanted medication within a reasonable time.

What goes where?
Clinical Compound
Galvanised bins: - these are located by the Laundry Department and behind the Training Centre. These have individual unit numbers on. For pad waste these go into yellow tiger striped bags.
Infectious Waste – Yellow Large Bins: - these are located by the Laundry Department and behind the Training Centre
Sharps
Yellow Sharp boxes / containers: - these are located in the Clinical Rooms on the Units. These are to store used razors, needles and any other sharp object; and are collected by Trust Hygiene Services.
